April is National Autism Awareness Month. This year, as a part of our annual "Autism Awareness Ambassador Program," Autism New Jersey has distributed close to 100,000 individual awareness items to teachers and classrooms in communities throughout the state at no cost to them. Our goal is to help spread awareness and help build communities that embrace and accept individuals with autism. Items include colorful posters with our uplifting awareness message, fact sheets and rack cards to help better understand autism, and bright temporary tattoos and stickers to wear with pride while raising awareness.
In addition to our supplies, we produced and distributed 250 "School Resource Packs" that contain all the tools needed for an elementary school teacher (grades K to 5) to raise awareness in his/her classroom. It includes supplies for a 24 student classroom, including a kids activity booklet, lesson plans, resources for teachers and awareness giveaways for students (pencils, bookmarks, temporary tattoos).
Help us continue this program in 2017 and bring these free supplies and resources to more classrooms and educators in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex Counties.
