Come help our family raise money for a noble cause. Unicef is the United Nations Children's Fund and has been supporting children in conflict zones and economically or disaster challenged areas around the world since the end of World War II. Through its unwavering commitment to children it has helped eradicate polio from countries like India, brought clean water to millions and reduced infant mortality. I first became aware of the impact of economic isolation on children when I was a child. Traveling the south pacific in a boat with my family we visited an isolated archipelago. The villagers asked my mother for medicine for an ill child. My mother with limited medical knowledge knew the situation was grave and it was then that she asked if I would give up my doll for the young child. Unfortunately the child died days later from cerebral malaria. This incident struck a cord for me. Malaria is the third biggest killer of children in the world, yet it is entirely preventable. Unicef has been working in the tropics for decades bringing mosquito nets, clean water sources and antimalarial medicines to millions of families. Join with me to raise money for Unicef. Our family goal of $2,500 is small but this alone could buy 600 insecticide treated mosquito nets giving children safe places to sleep. The funds we raise will go directly to Unicef's Immunization fund that can bring anti-malarial treatments, vaccine carriers, and vaccines for measles, tetanus and polio. Help us not only meet but exceed our goal.
