Dash for Smiles was created by three mothers of cleft affected children. This is the seventh annual 5K walk/run to raise awareness and to benefit cleft lip and palate programs at Children's Hospital Colorado and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.
It is never easy to be "different" but kids with cleft deal with a lot more than a scar. Often times cleft affected children undergo multiple surgeries before they reach their 10th birthday. They often struggle with hearing, speech, dental, and social issues.
Each July we host a 5k walk run in support of our local cleft clinics in Denver. Over the past 9 years we have donated over $100,000 to these clinics to support cleft affected children and their families. This money has allowed patients to begin much needed therapy or surgical procedures, provided specialized bottles for cleft affected newborn babies, and provided scholarships for kids to attend cleft camp.
