Medical Mission Trip to Honduras
Organized by: Dan James and John Van Schepen
EVENT DATE Dec 14, 2014
Dan James and John Van Schepen are really excited to be able to travel abroad and serve the Honduran people. Roatán Island is located off the east coast of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea. It is about 50 miles long, 5 miles wide, and home to about 50,000 people.
We will be going to work at Clinica Esperanza (The Clinic of Hope), a Christian, non-denominational, non-profit organization. The clinic’s mission is to provide the best healthcare possible to the people of the Bay Islands of Honduras. At the medical clinic and hospital, people can utilize services including the walk-in clinic, women’s health center, pediatrics inpatient hospital, birthing center, and dental clinics with support from laboratory and pharmacy. The clinic also provides outreach clinics, community health education programs, and school health screenings. For more information about the clinic, please go to www.clinicaesperanza.org.
There are no full time pharmacists on staff at the clinic, so we will have the opportunity to run the pharmacy during our time at the clinic. We will fill prescriptions, assist the local physicians and nurses, counsel patients, and provide education to the community. It is a wonderful opportunity to work alongside the Honduran physicians and nurses, as well as many other medical and nursing students to provide a service to the Honduran people using the knowledge and skills we have learned in pharmacy school while sharing the love of Christ.
We estimate the cost of airfare will be about $1400 for both of us, and we will be using all donations to cover that expense.
We greatly appreciate any financial contributions as well as your continued prayer support.
