Hello, my name is Daisy and im running in honor of my good friend Carmen who was dignosed with lupus six years ago, here's her story:
My name is Carmen Aguilar I'm 24 year old student/ advocate/ volunteer. I'm the group coordinator at the only support group in the Inland Empire located at Loma Linda. I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 18 while I was already working, going to school, kick boxing, and planning on enlisting into the army but when I got diagnosed everything changed. I showed symptoms of lupus long before but its just so hard to diagnose that no one really wanted to believe that's what it was. It wasn't until my kidney failure where I came close to doing dialysis that they took me seriously. Because of my age & my invisible illness I find myself constantly having to advocate for myself and that's why I took on the support group responsibilities I will be reopening another support group in the high desert in 2016 so that its available to more people now that more and more people are finally being diagnosed and realizing that this may just be the beginning of a long road I want them to know they aren't alone. The support group is literally the one and only place where you have people just like you that go and have been through the same things you're going through and its important to know you aren't alone. We have our good days and bad days but its the support groups along with my awesome support system that help keep me going and remind me not to give up. Although I may not be able to work because of how sick I get I try to spend most my time volunteering doing positive uplifting stuff because if God can use my story to help someone else then I'll continue to be that voice.
