I challenge fulltime Drupal developers (and business people) with the same or fewer core attributions as I have to donate approximately one day's pay to D8 Accelerate. If you don't know how to find your commit attribution, then I probably have you beat.
$ git clone --branch 8.0.x http://git.drupal.org/project/drupal.git drupal-8.0.x
$ git log | grep douggreen | wc -l
WHY DONATE? A PERSONAL REQUEST...
I have been a full time Drupal consultant/developer for almost 10 years. While I have a few well known code contributions, the bulk of my free contribution work was done over 5 years ago. Now I contribute code solely while working on client code.
I am donating the equivalent of one days pay towards D8 Accelerate because I choose to spend my work time on work and my spare time on other things. We need D8 to release. We need D8 for it's modern architecture and for it's new features. We need D8 so new projects can be built on the new code.
Many people have contributed days (and weeks and months) of code. I have not.
There are a lot of people like me. I contribute to Drupal as part of my day job, I sometimes attend conferences and camps, I am mentoring one friend, I gave two talks last year, but don't have a large D8 commit history. I have 39 core attributions for all of Drupal, only 3 in the last few years.
If you are not one of my fellow Drupal developers or co-workers with hundreds, even thousands, of attributions, expect to get challenged.
This is one way to contribe.
While the crowdrise.com software has an option to pay the administrative fees yourself, if you check this, you'll see a hefty 8% fee. This is too much and caused me to delay contributing or fundraising. But I have been assured by Holly from the DA that the administrative fees for this fundraiser is 3%, albeit a little high, but not much higher than most credit card processing fees.

All right Drupal community! This is our moment - together, we are going to move Drupal 8 from beta to release through the Drupal 8 Accelerate program. This is an all-out, everyone-in effort to raise $250,000 to kill the last criticals in our way.
To kick things off, the Association has contributed $62,500 and the Association Board has raised another $62,500 from Anchor Donors. That means that $125,000 has already been raised, so:
Every dollar you donate has been matched, doubling your impact.
Join us today and make your donation. The sooner we get this done, the sooner we can all enjoy those launch parties!
The D8 Accelerate project is designed to help move Drupal 8 from the initial beta to a full release. This directly relates to the Association's mission: uniting a global open source community to build and promote Drupal. This is a pilot program from the Drupal Association to put $250,000 of community funds toward accelerating the release of Drupal 8, due to the strategic impact this work has on the entire Drupal ecosystem.
