BENEFITING: Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
ORGANIZER: Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
We met a little over 6 years ago when we started working together. Over time, we would not only become business partners but also close friends. Last fall, while on a business trip, we were running around D.C. and it hit us…why not run the Marathon this coming fall! It seemed like an awesome idea and something we’d really enjoy! (It also helped to have a training partner who you work with, no one can cheat on the long runs). As we looked into the event, we realized we had an opportunity not only to achieve personal goals, but also support a cause that is so personally close Eric and his family.
Eric’s cousin, Jack Hasenauer, was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2007 when he was just 5 years old. Eric remembers the countless hours that he and his parents spent in the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center; he remembered hearing about all of the tests and infusions that Jack endured throughout his many stays there, and he saw firsthand the powerful effects of the medications Jack would need take in the years that would follow. Now as the father of a 5 year-old boy, Eric can only imagine how difficult that time must have been for Jack and his family.
Today, Jack is a freshman in high school leading the life of a normal teenager. While Crohn’s is a lifelong disease that Jack will need to manage, Eric knows he will do great things in his life – he has the love and support of family and friends, he’s as tough as nails, and he continues to receive some of the best care available to Crohn’s patients.
On November 6th, we will be running the New York City Marathon in Jack’s honor and to raise funds in support of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. We hope that you will be able to join us by offering your support. Any contribution will be much appreciated by the two of us, and your gift will help fund critical research for improving treatment and finding a cure for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
