Courtney's Journey

My 16yo daughter, Courtney, began having problems August 2014 after a car wreck. They said she had whiplash and sent her home with muscle relaxers and pain meds. Her pain was unbearable and just wouldn't go away. September 2014 we were sent to a pain management clinic. They put her to sleep and did steroid injections in her neck and left shoulder. The next day she screamed with pain and told me her left arm was numb and she couldn't feel it. I took her back to the clinic and begged for help and let them know it was getting worse. They told us they had done all they could do and sent us away. We've been to numerous doctor's and hospitals for help and never get answers. January 2015 she started having fainting spells and what looked like seizures. Come to find out it was a reaction to nerve pain meds she was on. We stopped with those and they quit completely within five days. That was the only thing that got better. Her arm was completely paralyzed and she still had the neck pain. She started having trouble urinating that month. This went on for a while, she could only use it once a day. I kept telling the doctors and they couldn't figure out why. This went on for a little over a month, until one day she didn't use it at all. We have to use catheters every 3-4 hours now. Her muscles kept getting weak. She lost control and sensation of her bowels and eventually she was no longer able to walk. Now she can't sit up unless something is behind her. They did all sorts of tests but can't figure out what is causing the severe muscle weakness. We are currently going to MUSC in Chelarleston. She has a neurologist, urologist, and a GI specialist there. They are still trying to diagnose her but haven't been successful so far. It had been a year and a half now since the accident. We don't know if all this came from the wreck or if the wreck just triggered something already there. Our insurance paid for a wheelchair, hospital bed, and a lift for us to use at home. The only thing they won't pay for or on is a reclining bath chair. My daughter has a regular bath chair, but since she has trouble sitting up she has to lean on the shower wall to bathe. It hurts her neck so bad leaning on the wall to wash. I am trying to raise enough money to get her one that reclines. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone. I will post any new updates and hopefully a diagnosis one day.
