Scholars Working Ambitiously to Graduate (SWAG)
Organized by: Thaddeus Talbot
Event Name: CGIU Commitments Challenge Round 2
THE STORY:
AMOUNT RAISED IN PREVIOUS ROUND: $655
Only 80 percent of African-American male students graduate Cornell University within 6 years. This rate is the lowest among all other student demographics. Scholars Working Ambitiously to Graduate (SWAG) is a peer mentoring program that combats low retention and graduation rates among African-American men at Cornell University. SWAG’s primary goal is to boost the graduation rate to 90% or higher by the university’s 150th Anniversary in 2015. Our CGI U Commitment to Action aims to equip men of color with academic enrichment, professional development and community building. Our goals include: creating a scholarship fund, bringing top guest speakers to campus, and launching the first Black Man Inter-Ivy League conference.
