BENEFITING: Compassion Champs
EVENT DATE: Apr 02, 2017
In the critically acclaimed 1998 film, Saving Private Ryan, a squad of D-Day survivors are sent behind enemy lines on a mission to rescue the last son of a devastated Iowa family. The Mother of this family already had 2 sons die in battle and her heart was broken in half, but she had hopes of saving her last son. We are on a similar mission. Our mission is to save a mother cow, referred to by her farmer as 'Black Baby', and her baby calf, who are currently scheduled to be sent to a painful slaughter. This mother cow is 16 years old and for 14 years she has given birth to 14 beautiful babies, only to have each and every one of them killed in front of her and sent off to be processed for hamburger meat. She has lived an unfathomable life of pain, agony and sadness. She gave birth last July to her final calf and we are headed to rescue BOTH of them and bring them to an animal sanctuary in western Pennsylvania where the mother cow will finally be able to keep her baby safe. Black Baby and her baby calf, known as Jimmy, will experience the gift that Private Ryan’s mother had of bringing her youngest and final son home with her. They will spend a lifetime free of pain and fear and in peace and harmony, as life should be for all beings.
