Collins Benefit Fund
Organized by: Karel Horn
Our sister is very ill and is in need of a liver transplant. While she waits on that she and her husband are in need of assistance with Medical expenses, maintaining their household on a single income, and for frequent trips and procedures related to her medical care. Once surgery is complete she will need surgical after-care and need to be in an environment in which sterility can be maintained. She has grandchildren, adult children, and a husband who love her very much, not to mention her siblings, nieces and nephews. Every donation no matter the size is deeply appreciated as we try to help her cope with this medical crisis.
We had a wonderful live fundraising event two weeks ago. We were assisted by the Wonderful Salkehatchie Cycles group to do a Benefit Run and BBQ. Family and Community came together to celebrate Carolyn Beth and raise money to help her through this medical journey.
Last weekend we had Carolyn's birthday and we are definitely looking forward to many more birthdays with her but there is still a long road to travel before she is well again. Doctors and treatments and travel to and from are financially wearing. Her liver is completely non-functioning at this time and she is having to routinely have fluid removed from her body (approximately every two weeks or so). The amount of fluid that they take off can vary from 30-45lbs worth of fluid. She always feels a lot better the first few days after it's removed but it quickly comes back again.
We are continuing to raise money through live events as well and have lots of fun fundraisers in the works right now!
