EVENT: scrambleCFEDscramble

College Track is a college completion program that empowers students from underserved communities to reach their dream of a college degree. The 10 year program works with low-income, first generation students from the summer after 8th grade through college graduation. College Track students who complete the high school program are 2.5 times more likely to graduate from college than their low-income peers. The 1:1 Fund works with College Track’s Bay Area sites (East Palo Alto, Oakland, San Francisco) to help encourage and match 50 high school seniors saving for college.

Each College Track senior aims to save $500 towards college in the 2013 – 2014 school year, and our goal is to match each of these Bay Area savers dollar for dollar. Help us ensure that not being able to afford a housing deposit or airline ticket does not stop these 50 students from going to college and building a better future. Reaching our $25,000 goal will enable the 1:1 Fund to match these 50 students saving and striving towards college.

Geraldine Sobine, College Track's Director of New Initiatives, tells a story about the importance of saving for college to College Track students: "When I told James that he had $2,000 in his college savings account, this very tough kid got tears in his eyes. For him it was the difference between being able to pay tuition or not. Without it, he wouldn’t have been able to enroll in a 4-year college."
