Human Trafficking Happens Here.

And We Can End It Here!

Human trafficking happens here on the Central Coast of California. It happens on our streets, in our restaurants, hotels and fields. Tragically, despite the fact that it’s illegal, slavery takes place in every country and city in the world. The good news is that a local Coalition To End Human Trafficking is gearing up to rid our neighborhoods of these crimes. With your help we can stop trafficking from happening here where we live.

Our story begins with a tip, a question and a 13 year old girl. In the summer of 2014, a community member received a phone call asking for help for a young girl who was being sold. As this community member reached out to a network of organizations, business owners and concerned residents, she asked what is our community doing to stop human trafficking. This group came together to see what could be done to help this girl - and other human trafficking survivors in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties.

Through this search, the network learned that from 2007 to 2010, a regional collaboration was created by two incredible nuns. Sister Jean Schafer and Sister Sheila Novak, spearheaded the development of The California Central Coast Coalition To Stop Enslavement (CA-CCC-SE). Unfortunately, when the nuns moved out of the area in 2010, the CA-CCC-SE was no longer able to sustain itself.

With the groundwork laid out by the nuns and with a renewed commitment to end human trafficking in the Monterey Bay area, the network voted to re-launch what the nuns had started and form the Coalition to End Human Trafficking in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties

Lead by a human trafficking survivor, The Coalition To End Human Trafficking In Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties currently includes over 180 members from over 90 different agencies and organizations. This includes experts from law enforcement, child welfare, foster care organizations, hospitals, and rape crisis centers, all committed to protecting our Central Coast community from the horrific crime of human trafficking.

Today, as we launch Operation Traffick Stop, our first awareness- and fund-raising campaign, the Coalition has a lot to be proud of. As an all volunteer organization, we have provided survivors-centered, trauma-informed training throughout our community. We have brought together key stakeholders to collaborate and work together. And we have seen child and adult human trafficking survivors receive the help they deserve.

We believe that awareness and education are key elements of creating a culture of safety in our communities, and this is where you come in. Funds raised will support the Coalition’s capacity to conduct vital research, trainings and community outreach.

Please join us by donating today.

Together, we can create a safer community for us all.

Please note that the Coalition is fiscally sponsored by The Action Council. Your donation receipt will be issued in this name.
