BENEFITING: TEAM SAIJ - SIMPLY THE BEST
EVENT: 2nd Annual Dash for Duchenne
EVENT DATE: Jun 18, 2016
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a rare and progressive muscle degenerative disease. DMD is a fatal genetic disorder that currently has no cure and affects over 20,000 boys across the US. Young boys with DMD typically lose their ability to walk and slowly lose muscle function in every part of their body, including the heart. TEAM SAIJ – Simply The Best was registered in 2011 as a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization inspired by Saij Singh and the desire to make a difference for him and all other boys affected by this life-threatening disease. Saij Singh is the face behind TEAM SAIJ - an enthusiastic and intelligent 12-year-old with an unwavering passion for life. However, unlike most of his peers he was confined to a wheelchair by the time he was 7. Now Saij refuses to let this disease limit him, and talks of becoming the president one day—“FDR did it in a wheelchair; why not me?” TEAM SAIJ was formed to support research for DMD. All proceeds raised go directly to research and finding a cure. There is so much to be thankful for in terms of longer life expectancy and an increased quality of life for boys affected by this disease; yet there is still so much to be done to stop Duchenne before it stops our boys.
