Walk for Water 2014 Event Details

Join us on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ for the second annual Walk for Water Event, which aims to raise awareness about the hardship millions of people face every day when trying to access clean, safe drinking water.

Participants will carry a bucket of water for one mile to simulate the daily challenge many communities face in obtaining the necessary water. Proceeds will fund EWB-NNJ’s ongoing water supply implementation project in Isanjandugu, Tanzania.

The walk will begin at 11:00 am, so please arrive by 10:30 am to check-in and claim your bucket!

The cost is a minimum $25/participant and $10 for current Stevens students! We encourage our participants to create a fundraising page as an individual or as part of a team! Online registration ends on Friday, September 19, 2014. Registration on the day of the event is $35/participant.

The first 100 walkers to register will receive a free t-shirt!

Why We Walk For Water

The purpose for the Walk for Water event is to create awareness about the hardship millions of people face everyday when trying to access and drink clean water. In doing so, we are aiming to raise funds for our ongoing water project in Isanjandugu, Tanzania.

Isanjandugu is a village in Central Tanzania comprised of approximately 200 households and 1,400 residents who rely on small, contaminated water holes and ditches as their daily water source. The Engineers Without Borders Northern New Jersey Chapter (EWB-NNJ) is working with Isanjandugu to develop a safe and reliable water source in the village.

Since the adoption of this Clean Water Solutions project in September of 2012, EWB-NNJ has been successful in completing an initial assessment trip, forming a relationship with the community, and collecting all pertinent data and baseline information in order to carry this project forward. Moving forward, EWB-NNJ will be working with the community and determine a detailed project scope and timeline for implementing a selected course of action.

About Us

Engineers Without Borders – Northern New Jersey Professional Chapter (EWB-NNJ) is a subset of Engineers Without Boarders – USA (EWB-USA).  We are a group of professionals (engineers, public relations, teachers, or anyone who just wants to help out) who implement sustainable development projects in communities around the world, with the purpose of improving the standard of living and empowering communities. Community development projects involve environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable engineering projects.  We are committed to the EWB-USA vision of a world in which all communities have the capacity to meet their basic human needs.

In addition to working on the design and implementation of development projects, EWB-NNJ members serve as mentors for local student chapters to ensure technical integrity, and to foster social responsibility and global awareness.
