I am running the Shamrock Shuffle this year and it will be my first race ever! I think I have run maybe one day in my life up until I started my training. I decided that I want to give myself a bigger goal along with training for this 8k, so I want to try to raise 1,000 dollars for Tree House Humane Society. I have volunteered in the clinic at Tree House for over a year now, and it is by far one of the most amazing animal shelters I have ever seen in my life. Everyone who works there is so committed and cares so much about the cats at the shelter. Tree House is one of the only shelters who take cats with illnesses and disabilities and treat them. Most shelters turn away sick animals because it is hard to adopt them out. Tree House became the first shelter in the country to house FIV infected cats in 1988! Unlike some other shelters, they are a no-kill shelter, which means even if a cat has lived there for 13 years and hasn't been adopted, they will keep the cat there until it goes to a home. Tree House is also a cage-less shelter which means that all the cats are free to roam around the rooms in which they reside. Right now, all of the cats live in a house in Uptown which was bought in 1973 for the purpose of a cat shelter. It is a small house, and they have definitely outgrown the space. This summer, Tree House will be moving to their new location which will feature Chicago's first cat cafe! This new location will have a ton more space, more clinical and surgery rooms, and the much anticipated cafe. Tree House still needs a lot of help reaching their monetary goal for the new shelter! I would love to be able to help them by raising money through this platform and give back to the people and animals I know at the shelter. Not only do they need help with funds for the new shelter, but Tree House is a non-profit and they rely on donations for all the basic needs of the cats. Your donation could go towards food or medicine for one of the cats at the shelter! If 50 people gave just $20 dollars I would reach my goal! Even if you only have five dollars to spare, that would help me reach my goal. You will probably all visit the cafe at some point, so why not donate to help it become a reality! Volunteering at Tree House has greatly impacted my life, and I am so thankful for all the work they do for homeless cats in Chicago. Thank you all so much, every little bit counts.
