Dear Family and Friends,
Life is a systematic journey that comprises lessons, achievements, and milestones. The road to happiness and success begins when you can embrace the cards that you’ve been dealt, and translate them into something extraordinary. In this present chapter, I am pursuing a goal that requires dedication to being physically fit, mentally awake, and morally straight. On Sunday, October 12th, I will be running the Chicago Marathon for the third time. As I continue training in my limited free-time, I am concurrently raising money for one of the world’s finest benevolent organizations.
Save the Children gives children in the United States and around the world what every child deserves – a healthy start, the opportunity to learn, and protection from harm. When disaster strikes, they put children's needs first. They advocate for and achieve large-scale change for children. They save children's lives. I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunities life has allowed me, and I attribute my demeanor to the kindness people are inherently capable of. In simple terms, I am a proponent of paying it forward.
Together with Save the Children members worldwide, we can help children in 120 countries, by providing support for health, education, protection, disaster relief and so much more.
- With nearly 1 in 4 American kids living in poverty, Save the Children is growing education, health, and emergency programs.
- Their work in Africa includes ongoing programs and emergency response throughout the continent.
- Save the Children has worked in Asia for more than 30 years. In 2012, they helped more than 51 million children in Asia.
- For more than 25 years, Save the Children has worked in Latin America and the Caribbean to improve children's education, health and well-being.
- In 2012, Save the Children helped 10.8 million children in the Middle East and Eurasia, including a massive response to help Syrian refugees.
More than 1.2 million Iraqis have already been displaced in the past few months since the fighting began, many of them young children. Aid agencies are working around the clock to cope with the rapid displacement in northern Iraq as tens of thousands of people flee from fighting. Save the Children has distributed hygiene kits, jerry cans, shelter kits, and biscuit packs in some of the worst affected areas. They have helped more than 100,000 in northern Iraq since fighting first broke out at the beginning of June.
Save the Children is also working in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone to halt the deadliest Ebola epidemic in recorded history. They are training teachers, health workers, nurses, and local organizations on prevention measures against Ebola and distributing protective kits in schools.
