Children of the Season
Organized by: Aditi Gautam
Children of the Season is a 2-week summer camp for the children of a migrant community, working on betel nut farms in India. The children suffer from poor hygiene, inadequate nutrition, and lagged cognitive development. The children have trouble fitting in the community due to the language and cultural differences. This leads to most of the children not enrolling or attending the government schools. Many of them start working with their parents at a young age and the girls get married in their early teenage years. The children live in small rooms with their families, which could be as big as 8 members. The community is largely invisible to government policies and are not protected by any regulations in their work places. The money raised by this fundraiser would go entirely to buying educational supplies, renting a community center and other logistical transactions. It would be my humble request to anyone who is capable of sparing a few dollars, to support our cause. All the money would directly go into helping these children’s education, who have been largely ignored by the society.
