Police and military are two things that are very near and dear to my heart and money raised through #teamromito will help suppport first responders and build smart homes for service members who have been catastrophically injured. On September 11th 2001 my father, Port Authority police Chief, James Romito went to work. He was in his office in Police Headquarters at the Port Authority Technical Center when the first airplane struck Tower One. He left his office and told the team of police officers he was with, "This is what we're going to do. We're going in, checking the floors for anyone, then we're going to get out." Chief Romito and his team began evacuating floors as they continued to climb higher. When Tower Two collapsed Chief Romito gave an order to evacuate the towers. "Let's go..Let's get out of here." After giving this order his team came across a women who was unable to walk on her own. The team strapped her to a first aid chair and attempted to carry her to safety. Tower One collapsed just as they reached the lobby and were within feet from an exit. That day he made the ultimate sacrifice. As a result of his efforts so many people were able to evacuate safely and return home to their loved ones. On September 27th we will partcipate in the Steven Siller Tunnel to Towers run. Last year #teamromito had 10 members and raised $2,255. My goal is to double our team to 20 and double our fundraising to $4,510. Please join #teamromito as we raise money for America's Bravest and honor all the sacrifices made by first responsders and military who give us all freeedom and protection.
