ORGANIZER: Voices Against Brain Cancer
Hello Friends and Family,It is with my great pleasure to inform you all that I will be running in the Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon on July 16, 2017. I chose the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon for a bigger reason than myself. As many of you are aware I am in a relationship with Jake Helfand, and for the holidays this year I wanted to give him a gift that he would remember for the rest of his life. So, I decided that I would run a half marathon in honor of his father who passed away from brain cancer.
Jake’s father, Michael Helfand passed away on December 18, 2012. Mike was a loving husband, father, and son. When you think about Mike you think about a person who was kind, hard-working, and always there for others. Mike had a good heart and would do anything for the people he loved. He was a family man and especially enjoyed spending time playing with his kids. Through this run I will not only be honoring Mike’s life, but supporting his family and friends during this difficult time. That being said, I need your help too. The Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon series represents over 40 different charities including St. Jude, The ALS Association, The EJ Autism Foundation, and so much more. I have been selected to team up with VABC, Voices Against Brain Cancer, to raise money in honor of Mike. VABC’s mission is to find a cure for brain cancer and brain tumors by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness, creating a brain cancer and tumor community, and supporting patients, their families and caregivers afflicted with this devastating disease. VABC asks that each approved runner raises $100 per mile they run. This means I will need to raise $1,310 and I can’t do this alone. This is where you, my friends and family, come in. Any donation you can make would be greatly appreciated. I not only want to reach my goal for Mike, but I want to represent and support the thousands of other people who have suffered as Mike did.
Lastly, to the Helfand family, thank you for giving me the opportunity to run in honor of Mike. I am so excited for race day!
With all my love,Carly
