Meet our precious team captain; Charlie!
At 22 weeks gestation, Charlie’s parents were told that their daughter has Hypo-plastic Left Heart Syndrome or HLHS. This means that Charlie is missing the left side of her heart and that her Aorta is completely closed off.
Of course, knowing that their little girl had a broken heart absolutely broke their hearts in turn. They quickly embarked on the path to finding hope for a life for Charlie before her arrival date of July 4, 2014.
Charlie is currently under the care of an amazing group of doctors at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and even though she has a rough road filled with several surgeries and recoveries ahead, they are optimistic about Charlie’s heart and the life she will have.
Charlie had her second surgery on Dec. 5, 2014. This came with a few complications they were not prepared for. She ultimately ended up with a pacemaker being implanted to help her heart in case it gets a little sluggish. Charlie came come home on Dec. 19, 2014 and was doing much better.
On Jan 23, 2015, Charlie had a stent placed in her left pulmonary artery. She is currently home, happy, and truly bringing so much joy into the family’s life. Charlie will continue to be monitored and will be having another open-heart surgery when she is 2-4 years of age.
