The odds are stacked against children of incarcerated patents. They are victims of poverty, abandonment, abuse and violence. By the time they reach their teen years, they are at risk of suicide, dropping out and winding up in prison themselves. In many cases, society and our schools have written them off.
No More Victims visionary founder, Marilyn Gambrell, started working in Houston high schools 20 years ago to show teenagers who had a parent in prison that they are valuable, they are important and they are loved.
And the program has worked miracles for our students. Since inception, No More Victims students have a nearly 100% high school graduation rate. They go on to college, jobs or military service. They raise families. Most importantly, in the history of the program, very few have wound up behind bars.
Our goal now is to expand No More Victims throughout Houston, throughout Texas and, ultimately, throughout the United States. Cherish Our Children International is honored to be included on the Community Thrives program and will use funding from this platform to expand and help more children beat the odds!
