Extreme Mutt Makeover 2010 - CHECKERS

The dogs selected for the 2010 Extreme Mutt Makeover competition were pulled from a kill shelter days before they were scheduled to be euthanized - The Humane Society of North Texas, Patti Colbert Enterprises, and the Mustang Heritage Foundation are bringing national attention to the overwhelming numbers of animals that are being euthanized daily in shelters across the nation by creating the Extreme Mutt Makeover competition.

He IS as cool as he looks! Checkers is a Border Collie mix - a former yard dog with NO education. Go to his Facebook page and click on the LIKE button to follow the continuing adventures of Checkers as he becomes a well-mannered canine citizen.

There are several ways for you to participate - the dog with the most Likes on his FB page gets a special prize and there are sponsorship opportunities for each dog, with donations going directly to the HSNT to provide services to the dogs that didn't get this special chance to shine. The monies raised through this Project will go directly to the HSNT.

EXTREME MUTT MAKEOVER RETURNS TO FT WORTH - Shelter Dogs Receive a New "Leash" on Life

Dogs destined to live, or more likely, die in a North Texas animal shelter will now receive a new "leash" on life as the Mustang Heritage Foundation (MHF) and the North Texas Humane Society team up again in 2010 to host the Extreme Mutt Makeover.

15 volunteer trainers have been assigned one of 15 homeless shelter dogs and trainer/dog teams will return to compete for prizes in August at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Ft. Worth, TX. Local dog trainer, Traci Murdock, CPDT-KA, has been selected to compete in the 2010 competition with Checkers. All of the dogs selected for the 2010 Extreme Mutt Makeover competition were pulled from a kill shelter days before they were scheduled to be euthanized.

The Extreme Mutt Makeover will be held August 13-14 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Trainers will train their dogs for eight weeks and return to compete for cash and prizes. The competition will demonstrate basic obedience skills and any special talents or relationship the trainer has developed with the dog. A special 3 minute freestyle event for the top 5 contenders will be showcased during the final performance. All dogs will be available for adoption.
