CHA Animal Shelter is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal shelter in northeast Columbus, Ohio. CHA is funded solely by donations from adoption fees, donations from the public, and our own fundraising efforts.
Our mission is to serve the people and animals of Central Ohio by providing safe, temporary shelter and care for abandoned or otherwise homeless cats and dogs, and to reduce pet overpopulation by means of spay and neuter, education, and community outreach. We have been fulfilling our mission since 1975.
We strive to do all we can for the animals we serve. Through the Emergency Medical Fund, CHA provides treatment for conditions like heartworm, intestinal parasites and dental disease in addition to critical care for broken bones and other severe injuries.
We operate as a limited-intake shelter. We have an extensive network of foster homes which temporarily take in animals that might be too young, sick or scared for the shelter environment. Once a cat or dog is accepted into the adoption program, we work hard to find a permanent, loving home no matter how long it takes.
CHA’s cats and dogs are all spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to being adopted out. We have rooms for cats that have difficulty adjusting to a cage and a post-op recovery room for dogs to get special care and rest after spay/neuter surgery.
