Funds raised through our participation at the Long Beach Marathon will support CFGC's children and families as they work to heal, thrive and achieve their potential.
Child Abuse Prevention & Adolescent Mental Health Treatment
CFGC has been at the forefront of child abuse prevention and adolescent mental health treatment in South-east Los Angeles County for over 35 years. Our therapists receive specialized training in therapy techniques that scientific research has found to be the best treatment models for addressing abuse and trauma issues. From our Safety Bear school-based prevention program to our intensive treatment programs we offer an array of programs to assist children and their families who have been impacted by abuse and neglect.
Counseling and Psychotherapy
At CFGC we believe that the mental health needs of a child will impact the whole family. For this reason, our counseling programs are focused not just on the child in need, but also on providing support for the whole family. We offer individual, family, and parent psychotherapy services tailored to the specific needs of each family.
CFGC provides support to the family by offering parenting groups that are de-signed to help parents understand and communicate more effectively with their children, while also providing a peer support system for parents.
Psychiatric Medication Management
For many children, counseling services are most effective when provided in con-junction with psychiatric medication support services. At CFGC, we carefully assess the needs of each child and the values and wishes of the family when con-sidering medication services for our clients. The decision to include psychiatric medication support is a decision made between the family, the therapist, and the psychiatrist.
All children need safe communities, supportive friends and teachers in order to be happy and successful. At CFGC, we are committed to working collaboratively with our local school districts to promote student success in the classroom and safe environments in which children can learn and grow. Through local school partnerships, we offer school-based individual and family therapy services in ad-dition to Bully Prevention, Teen Pregnancy Prevention and Intervention and "Safety Bear" child abuse education for elementary school children.
Referrals to Community Resources
At CFGC, we understand that the strength of families is often compromised by social and economic issues outside of the home. All of our programs provide families with connections and referrals to local, accessible resources such as food banks, affordable housing, child care, and after school programming.
