Catalyst Foundation builds communities in Vietnam to fight trafficking.
The community we serve is made up of one of the smallest ethnic minority groups in Vietnam - the Raglai. They make up less than 1% of Vietnam's population AND have been ignored and deprived of their basic human rights … for generations! Our target beneficiaries are children and women first, then multi-generation families with elderly as primary caregivers.
UNICEF did a survey of the Ninh Thuan province in 2012 and found that the Raglai people are 9X poorer than the ethnic Vietnamese. They live in the 4th poorest province in Vietnam, with an INDIVIDUAL’s average daily INCOME of only .88 cents.
.88 cents a day and our community is 9X poorer than that! The statistics are numbing:
* 9 out of 10 children do not have enough to eat!
(And the ONE child that does have SOME food doesn’t have meat, fish, eggs, or milk - those are luxury items.)
* 7 out of 10 people in our community are illiterate.
* Our entire community does not have access to safe water.
We, at Catalyst Foundation, provide basic needs, job opportunities, counseling and education to prevent the trafficking of their children. We work in partnership with local officials, community leaders, teachers, social workers and the children to build a trusting relationship over time.
This allows us to work collaboratively to confront child trafficking!
Our goal it to build a new primary school for 200+ children by July 2013. Volunteers, parents, teachers, and community members will complete it so that they have a true sense of ownership to their new school. But we NEED your help! Your $20 purchase of a "brick of HOPE" will allow us to carry on our mission that works, a mission that empowers, a mission that gives HOPE!
