The Carmel Youth Assistance Program (CYAP) serves as an early intervention advocate for youth ages 3-17 who are facing challenging life circumstances. In addition to connecting families to resources, CYAP also strives to fill gaps in the community. In 2017, we noticed many families who depend on The Federal Free and Reduced Meals were struggling to feed their children during the summer months. Feeding children for the 11 weeks of the summer can be a massive financial burden for many families.
Last year, we served 259 children and provided 28,490 meals. We are requesting financial assistance to help support this program which has grown significantly as a direct result of COVID-19. We currently have 529 children registered. As many parents have experienced a cut in hours or been furloughed, families who were not previously experiencing financial strain and food shortages in the summer are now facing this reality and, therefore, signing up for the summer meals program. We currently have 529 children registered and plan to hopefully serve over 52,000 meals. This is a 104% increase from the numbers we served in 2019.
