At Caritas Communities, we prevent homelessness by providing very low-income individuals with permanent housing, support, a sense of community and expanded opportunities. For more than 34 years, Caritas has helped fill the need for safe, secure housing in Greater Boston.

Caritas Communities serves over 1,000 individuals annually in 33 buildings in 17 Greater Boston communities. We are the largest provider of housing for homeless Veterans in Greater Boston, and 70% of our residents have experienced homelessness. Our model starts with a safe, clean, permanent home accessible to those with very low income. We then provide the scaffolding to help our residents succeed in permanent housing, including:

WELCOME BASKET PROGRAM: For those who need it: bedding, a place setting, personal-hygiene essentials, the basics to help a new resident settle in their new home.

RESIDENT SERVICES PROGRAM: A helping hand connecting to nutrition programs, health services, counseling, Veterans’ benefits, job training and placement, and crises intervention.

TENANCY PRESERVATION PROGRAM: Support for residents in arrears: identifying root causes; providing coaching, budget support, and connection to resources; and fostering accountability.

EMERGENCY RENTAL ASSISTANCE When temporary setbacks happen, rental assistance grants to cover arrearages paired with a plan to get back on track.

HEALTHY RESIDENTS PROGRAM Health, well-being, and social belonging: Y memberships, community meals, art and writing workshops, budget workshops, and libraries in our homes.

Donations to Team Caritas Communities will go to support our Welcome Basket and Healthy Residents programs. These programs are critical to helping residents who have experienced isolation and trauma begin to heal and reconnect with the community. Once housed, we must help our residents achieve health, well-being and social belonging. This program addresses the physical and psychological needs of our residents, and combats isolation by creating social belonging.
