Camp Wilmot is a small camp and conference center in Wilmot, NH, less than 2 hours outside of Boston. Owned by the PCUSA and staffed by young adults who are overwhelmingly motivated in this work by personal faith, Camp Wilmot invites campers to engage, as they feel comfortable, with the spiritual practices and meaning making activities through a curriculum rooted in Christian tradition and informed by contemporary issues and ideas. Days at Camp Wilmot are full of the traditional camp activities – archery, hiking, ropes course, boating, games, and cooking to name a few, but are also punctuated by opportunities to reflect, connect, and learn about God, and to do so far from WIFI and iPhone screens. Our mission is to build a community where campers feel known and loved and to help our campers develop confidence and grow in loving relationship with one another. We work hard to be open and inclusive; we welcome campers from a wide vareity of backgrounds and well over half of our campers come to us on full or partial scholarships.
Camp Wilmot, with its 200+ acres nestled in the foothills of the White Mountains, its legions of voices raised in song, its commitment to welcome and care, is a place where feeling God’s presence is often just a little bit easier. Our campers call them “God Sightings,” this phenomenon of feeling God’s presence. They go around their cabins at mealtimes or bedtimes, sharing their God Sightings of the day – moments where a word or breeze, wild blueberry or song, helped them experience God as with them. In the Celtic tradition, we talk about “thin places” to get at the very same idea. A thin place is where the thin veil between heaven and earth is made even thinner, or drawn away completely, allowing a person to experience communion with the sacred and to glimpse the wonder of God. Join us at Camp Wilmot for a week or a weekend and experience your own thin place - where slowing down and laughing deeply, where disconnecting from WIFI and reconnecting to God and nature and neighbor come naturally.
