BENEFITING: CAMP SUNSHINE AT SEBAGO LAKE
ORGANIZER: CAMP SUNSHINE AT SEBAGO LAKE
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Hey All! Thanks for visiting!
Heres a little bit about my running story:
I started running for exercise at the end of April this year, and at that time couldn't make it through 3 miles without stopping and laying in the grass to rest multiple times. I kept running short 3 mile runs until I could do it straight, then one time I was on vacation in Oak Island and wanted to run to the fishing pier to visit some friends. It was supposed to be 4 miles, but turned out to be 5! I did the run, and even though I took a large break halfway through to chat, I was just blown away that I had run so far! Then every week thereafter I would add a mile to my run until I got up to my 8 miler. The day I was supposed to run 8 miles, I had been in the south on vacation, was chuck full of carbohydrates from all the yummy southern food, and during my run I felt so good I just kept going! I ended up finishing 13.1 miles that night and was flabbergasted that my body could do that! That was the first night I realized I actually enjoyed running!! With the amazing guidance of my Aunt Donna, I was able to learn how to fuel up and hydrate properly to help my body achieve those goals! Since then I've been doing exactly what she has said and am running a short 8-10 mile run every other week, and on the long run weeks I've been adding 2 miles to my runs. About 6 weeks ago I did my longest run of 20 miles! I can't believe the progress my body has made! When I found the marathon and saw that one of my favorite organizations was a part of it, I knew I couldn't donate more than I already had to them due to my student loans and such, so I thought, "Well, I have two legs! I can run!" And here we are! This is an amazing cause and I hope my story not only gains awareness and funds for this fantastic organization but helps inspire someone to just give whatever your goals are a shot and don't give up, because you never know the incredible things your mind and body can achieve! I'm so excited to run this marathon and hope with everyone's support that we can get some incredible families up to Sebago lake to make some memories together! Thank you all!!!
I have the incredible opportunity to run the NYC marathon this year for Camp Sunshine. It's a camp in Maine for families with a terminally ill child to go make memories for a week. It is free to the families, fully equipped with medical staff to help with the medical needs, and the best part is that ALL of the money I fundraise will be used for a Utah family if one applies! If you are interested in donating to support this cause, please see the attached forms. My fundraising goal is $2,500 and all donations are tax deductible! You will get a receipt to print and give to your tax preparer.
