THE STORY:
Since 1974, the Council for Adult & Experiential Learning (CAEL) has been at the forefront of adult education and workforce development. Through our activities, CAEL advocates for system change that will help lower-skilled, at-risk adults receive the education and training they need for employability, and help more adults of all ages and ethnicities complete postsecondary education.
CAEL has achieved a broad range of accomplishments in our varied spheres of work including:
- Leading in the area of prior learning assessment through LearningCounts.org – which advocates collegiate recognition of skills learned outside a traditional classroom
- Training the staff of many workforce development systems and community based organizations to help them serve the educational needs of adults
- Conducting and publishing research to drive both workforce and higher education policy and practice
- Assisting colleges and universities to become more responsive to the needs of a broad range of adult learners
- Expanding our long-time work in career and education advising to new populations
