How do nonprofits use GoFundMe Charity?

Nonprofits use GoFundMe Charity to raise funds for their mission and to inspire peer-to-peer fundraising among supporters. With GoFundMe Charity, nonprofits can create a completely customized branded fundraiser, as well as organize and sell event tickets. As a bonus, nonprofits are able to collect data from individual campaigns that are created to benefit their organization. This helps nonprofits raise more money than ever while learning as much as they can about their donor base.

Can you fundraise without being a charity?

Yes, individuals can fundraise for charities on GoFundMe Charity without being directly affiliated with the organization. Simply sign up with your own account and select the charity you’d like to fundraise for.

GoFundMe Charity fees explained

There are two different pricing options for a nonprofit using GoFundMe Charity. For both options, there are no subscription fees or contracts to use GoFundMe Charity and all of the same features are available for use when fundraising. We know pricing can be confusing—here are the main differences between the two pricing options:

  • With the Free pricing model, there is an industry-standard payment processing fee of 2.2%+$0.30 per donation. Donors are not given the option to cover processing fees for the charity. This means that the charity will always cover standard payment processing fees. For example, if a charity receives a donation of $100, they will receive $97.50 from that donation.
  • With the Flex pricing model, the industry-standard payment processing fee of 2.2%+$0.30 per donation remains and there is also a 3% platform fee. The difference with this plan is that donors are given the option to cover all fees with their donation so that the charity will net the full amount of the donation. With this in mind, if a charity received $100 donation, they could net between $94.50 to $100 of that donation.

GoFundMe vs. GoFundMe Charity

You may be asking yourself, “What’s the difference between GoFundMe and GoFundMe Charity?” Since its launch in 2010, GoFundMe has become the most trusted crowdfunding platform for individuals. In an effort to make a product just as impactful for nonprofit organizations, we launched GoFundMe for charity in 2019. When it comes to charity fundraising in general, GoFundMe offers two different options. For individuals looking to start a fundraiser to support their favorite nonprofit or charity, using GoFundMe is the best option. For a nonprofit looking to reach their donor base and run different fundraising campaigns, GoFundMe Charity is the best choice for their situation.

In short, GoFundMe is a very simple tool that allows individuals to raise money for charities they know and love while GoFundMe Charity is a fundraising platform with more robust features that are designed specifically for charities. While individuals can use the GoFundMe Charity product, the original GoFundMe platform is a simplified and very effective crowdfunding option for individuals. For nonprofit organizations, GoFundMe Charity offers the flexibility to design campaigns based on the needs and branding of each individual nonprofit. Additionally, nonprofits can offer event registration and ticketing on their campaigns, as well as collect data insights about their supporters to inform future fundraising efforts.

How do nonprofits raise money on GoFundMe Charity?

One trend stands out when taking a closer look at the most profitable fundraisers on GoFundMe Charity: the platform gives nonprofits the tools to tell their story to make a bigger impact. With fully customizable fundraising pages, brands can build their fundraisers and include their own personal logo. This allows donors to have a completely streamlined experience when moving from a nonprofit website to their fundraiser. Additionally, brands can keep their voice and tell their story using the words, colors, and images that work best for them. Below are a few examples of incredible fundraisers on the GoFundMe Charity platform.

Barbie You Can Be Anything Festival

Mattel used GoFundMe Charity to sell event tickets for their You Can Be Anything festival. With a simple sign up and check out flow, supporters can buy their tickets in a matter of minutes. Plus, Mattel made sure to customize their fundraiser to match Barbie branding, making any supporter feel like they’ve never left the Barbie website.

Wine Women and Shoes 2019

Wine Women and Shoes organizes fashion-centered events that result in a night benefiting a number of different nonprofits. Because they have claimed their nonprofit within the GoFundMe Charity platform, Al Jaeger was able to start a fundraiser as an individual and raise money for Wine Women and Shoes, directly.

BFit Heroes Cup 2020

The Boston Bruins Foundation uses GoFundMe Charity to organize its annual BFit Heroes Cup hockey tournament to benefit multiple charities. Through their fundraiser, supporters can make donations to the event or they can register to start a team and actually compete in the tournament.
