Junior Board Bus Campaign 2015
Urban Initiatives' Junior Board aims to raise $25,000+ to offset Urban Initiatives’ massive costs to transport students to and from practices, games, and other events. Help the Junior Board Member you know reach his or her goals by making a donation today!
Why it's important: Our 1,050+ Work to Play Program participants take buses on Friday afternoons to parks and other elementary schools across Chicago to participate in games that foster teamwork, soccer skills, and social inclusion. This travel is a critical component of our program.
In the communities we serve, youth rarely travel outside of their neighborhoods; thus, homogeneous populations often define student experiences. Our program aims to enhance social inclusion across Chicago by exposing children to new people, places, and ideas. UI’s participants travel to play soccer with teams in communities throughout the city—crossing gang, cultural and racial boundaries to come together through a common love of soccer.
These field trip experiences are vital to enhancing our Work to Play participants’ social and emotional development as well as meeting our overall program goals.
