Thank You + 9 day countdown
October 27, 2017
Anyone who knows my mom, would describe her as optimistic, genuine, strong and selfless. She radiates love and laughter, so at first glance, you would never know that she has been battling breast cancer on and off again for the past 9 years due to her constant smile and positive outlook on life. In August 2016, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. This news rocked my family, but after a day or two of taking it all in, she had her game face back on and was ready to fight. My mom is hands down, the strongest woman I know.
One of the hardest things I've ever done was move from Connecticut to Chicago a few weeks after my mom was diagnosed with stage 4. Being her selfless self, she told me that she would put me on the plane even if I was kicking and screaming (so I didn’t really have a choice). In the midst of her life-changing news, she was concerned with my happiness. My dad, our family, and our friends have truly stepped up in ways that I never thought imaginable. My family and momma are truly blessed to be surrounded by such loving and giving people. This has made being away from home slightly easier, however, I decided to join Team Bright Pink so that I can show my love and support even while I’m 856 miles away from my beloved Cottage Place.
In honor of my momma, I'm running and raising money for Bright Pink, whose mission is to save women’s lives from breast and ovarian cancer by empowering them to live proactively at a young age. Bright Pink is a national non-profit organization focused on prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. Their aim is to reach the 52 million young women in the United States between the ages of 18 and 45 with their innovative, life-saving breast and ovarian health programs, thereby empowering this and future generations of women to live healthier, happier, and longer lives. Your donation will directly support Bright Pink’s educational programs that help save lives from breast and ovarian cancer.
I am so grateful for anything you can contribute because every dollar counts! Just $2.50 can empower education for one woman. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating to this special organization. It truly means the world.
I'm running the TCS New York City Marathon on November 5th, 2017 because together, we can create a world in which fewer women die from breast and ovarian cancer.
Thinking of her smiling and fist-pumping self and my daddy’s goofy smile waiting for me at the finish line will keep me going through all 26.2 miles. :)
