BENEFITING: AVENUES FOR HOMELESS YOUTH
I'm super excited to be able to participate in an event that pulls together some of my most favorite things - the LGBTQIA+ community, powerlifting, helping people, and my home state of Minnesota! Avenues for Homeless Youth is a SUPER cool organization, which I only recently heard of. To quote their mission statement, "The mission of Avenues for Homeless Youth is to provide emergency shelter, short-term housing and supportive services for homeless youth in a safe and nurturing environment. Through such service, Avenues seeks to help youth achieve their personal goals and make a positive transition into young adulthood." This is incredibly important, since there are an estimated ~6000+ homeless youth on the average night in Minnesota; that includes the winter, which is preeeeeetty cold if you haven't noticed.
Also, I realized that the "goal" is probably supposed to be the amount that I hope/plan to lift... So, I updated my goal to be 325, rather than 250! My all-time personal best deadlift was 315 pounds a couple of years ago - since then I haven't been able to get anywhere close to that due to a couple of major knee injuries playing sports. But I'm back in the gym and feeling great, so I want to use that to help others!
