BENEFITING: BREAST CANCER EMERGENCY FUND
ORGANIZER: BREAST CANCER EMERGENCY FUND
EVENT: Virgin Sport San Francisco
It's my honor to run alongside my dear friend Jared Haftel in the San Francisco Half Marathon on October 15th, in support of his efforts to raise money for the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund (BCEF).
I've copied his message below because I think it was so beautifully written, and needs to be shared.
Nearly all of us have dealt with the pain and loss that breast cancer can bring. No one should have those circumstances compounded by poverty, rending treatment impossible. BCEF works towards that goal.
Regardless of if you're able to lend a hand, thank you so much for your time in reading this message and for your wonderful support you've given me throughout the years. I am incredibly grateful to share the love of so many beloved family members and friends.

Subject: Request for your support
I'm writing to request your support in raising money for the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund (BCEF). I'm running the SF Half Marathon on October 15th, and trying to raise $1k+ to support BCEF as part of my run.
BCEF provides emergency financial assistance to low income women in the Bay Area with breast cancer. These women are sick and poor, and we help them with very basic needs -- paying rent so they don't get evicted, paying the energy bill so they can keep the lights on, and paying for the bus to the clinic so they can get treatment.
As most of you know, I lost my mother to breast cancer five and a half years ago. The disease took a horrible toll on my family and everyone who loved her, and it's hard to think of what our experience would have been like if we couldn't afford basic needs on top of that pain.
Please find more detail on BCEF here: http://bcef.org/
PS - If you prefer to support my fellow runners (cc'ed above), that works just as well! Special thank you to Jessie, Miles, Ian and Rock for running with me and helping me raise money for BCEF!
