BENEFITING: TRAVIS MANION FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 27, 2013
What better way to honor our heroes’ hustle than by running the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) in our nation’s capital?
On October 27, 2013, we will set out to rip 26.2 on behalf of Team Travis and Brendan of the Travis Manion Foundation. The foundation, inspired by Travis’ words, “if not me, then who…” has a mission to honor the fallen by challenging the living. This will be Tyler's 3rd Marathon (Delaware ’09; Philadelphia ’12), while Lauren will be taking on her first!
We are inspired by the incredible story of Travis, a hometown hero. Travis made the ultimate sacrifice for his country by leading a counter-insurgent attack in Iraq and drawing enemy fire away from his comrades; a selfless act which spared the lives of his fellow marines. In honor of Travis' warrior spirit, we accept the MCM challenge and we're on a mission to assist our nation’s honorable veterans and the families of our fallen heroes. Like many things we've always done, we will also be running in honor of our late grandfather and best friend, Nick Pergine or, to us, Poppy. He served in the US Army before becoming a much respected mentor in the community and on the football field. He served as our personal coach, mentor and pillar of support on and off the athletic fields. Poppy reminded us that facing and overcoming adversity shows strength, challenged us to achieve perfection in all that we do, and constantly reminded us that any effort short of 110% was insufficient. He instilled in us the will to win and the courage to fail, and a lifelong drive to seek and achieve victory over life’s many obstacles with confidence and perseverance. Poppy finished every pep talk with, "now, kick ass and take names" and that's what we plan to do at the MCM. “He could be as tough as the day is long, but he was also the first person to lend a hand to someone in need or someone less fortunate.” The MCM would be an opportunity and challenge he'd accept with open arms; in memory of him, we'll do just that.
In order to cross the finish line on October 27th, we'll need your support. The way this works is - we raise to run. Please follow the link on the right-hand side to make a donation to the Travis Manion Foundation in our name by September 1, 2013. Any donation on behalf of either Tyler or Lauren, however large or small, is greatly appreciated. On behalf of our nation's veterans and the families of our fallen heroes, we thank you in advance for the support.
We look forward to cracking concrete on October 27th in honor of these badass men that inspire us daily!
- Tyler and Lauren Love
