Since I was a small child, I have watched lung cancer take the lives of my family members. My Grandfather, Grandmother, two Aunts and an Uncle have all lost their battle with this disease. In Feburary 2014 our family recieved the most devistating news at all, that my loving Mom had a been diagnoised with Small Cell Lung Cancer. My Mom was the picture of health, she worked out daily, ate well and was a non smoking, but all of that couldn't change her family history. My Mom fought an incredible battle against the disease recieving 24 rounds of chemotherapy without a single complaint, she participated in several clinical trials withstanding the side effects, in her effort to beat this disease. She fought a tireless battle and never once gave into the idea that she would not be around to see me graduate or watch her grandchildren grow up. My Mom lost her battle with lung cancer just 12 months after her diagnosis. Watching my brave Mom suffer through this terrifying disease process has inspired me to try to do something to help in some small way, to bring about a future where so many beautiful people are not taken from their families because of this terrible disease. Hopefully someday not only lung cancer, but all cancer is just part of our history books and not a disease we are still battling.
