Why Giving to BMS is Important:
BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers is on the frontline of healthcare in Brownsville and East New York, two of the hardest hit areas in NYC, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak. Our communities experienced high health disparities with chronic disease and shorter life spans before COVID-19, and those disparities have further contributed to the devastating impact being experienced.
Every day, our staff continue to provide frontline primary and specialty healthcare to families hardest hit by COVID 19, with Brownsville and East New York infection rates at over 50 percent of those tested. BMS staff volunteer to operate an onsite New York State COVID-19 Tent Testing for the community, one of the highest utilized testing sites in Brooklyn. In addition, our staff conduct outreach to screen and support our patients during this crisis including identifying food insecurity. BMS Farmers and Outreach Workers work to organize a local food safety net system with partners such as City Harvest, Collective Fare, Universe City and Teens for Food Justice and to date distributed over 6,000 bags of food to public housing, senior centers and shelters residents.
Your donation provides equipment and supplies needed for our essential healthcare workers to deliver medical care, outreach to support residents’ wellness during this crisis and the resources needed for weekly distributions of over 1700 food bags of fresh produce and dry goods. We invite you to join us in supporting some of NYC's most vulnerable families.

We invite you to join us in supporting some of NYC's most vulnerable families.
What We Do:
BMS adopts a holistic approach to healthcare with many programs and services that seem on the surface atypical for a Medical provider. However, BMS was founded and is grounded in a community asset-based approach to improving neighborhood outcomes as evidenced by our economic impact as the second largest employer in Brownsville. We have always understood that it is the interplay of Social, Emotional, Intellectual, Environment and Spiritual Health and imbalances therein that often results in the Physical Health disease conditions that we treat daily.
This is what is reflected in the diversity of our work. In addition to integrated comprehensive care, we provide programs in the areas of Early Intervention Screening though Literacy (Reach out and Read, BMS Books4All), Workforce (WATCH Health High School), Substance Abuse (Naloxone, Medication Assisted Therapy, a Residential Center for recovering substance users), Food Access (WIC, a school-based Hydroponic Farm), Nutrition and Exercise (Food as Medicine Prescriptions, Healthy Village at Brownsville weekly exercise and nutrition classes, Chronic Disease Management Classes, Diabetes Self-Management classes), Adolescent Health (School Based Health Center, Sexual Risk Avoidance Education), Mindfulness (Art as Healing) and Care Coordination (Health Homes, Health Coaches, Social Services).
