More about me and why I love Blue Ocean Society:
Blue Ocean Society's co-founder Dianna Schulte and I met during a whale research internship in 1996. After the internship, we both worked as naturalists on boats in NH. As we sat on our apartment floor identifying whales we had seen that season, we thought how beneficial it would be to have an organization that focused on Jeffreys Ledge (an understudied habitat) and its marine life. We also knew that we wanted to do education, because it seemed pointless to collect data but not share that information with the public. Here we are, 16 years later, with an organization that educates 50,000 people each year, works with volunteers to collect thousands of pounds of litter from area beaches, and is learning more than ever before about the whales and other marine life of Jeffreys Ledge. This year, we even expanded into Gloucester, where we originally met so many years ago! Plus, I get to work with some of the most dedicated, enthusiastic and passionate people I've ever met! With so many people impacting the ocean, our work is more important than ever before.
If you value being able to see healthy whales in the wild, enjoy walking on a litter-free beach, and know that education is key to helping the environment, I hope you'll consider a contribution to help in our fundraiser this holiday season. Thank you for your support!
