THE STORY:
I'm on the Board of Engineers for Blue Engine - a new non-profit that combats college under-preparedness by recruiting and supporting teams of Blue Engine Teaching Assistants (BETAs), recent college graduates who partner with classroom teachers to increase academic rigor in public high schools.
Did you know that only 15% of students from low income communities who enter college graduate?
That needs to change. And we can help.
In its first school year (20010-11), Blue Engine tripled the college ready rate in Algebra for its first partner school.
Now, Blue Engine wants to do more. That's why they launched The December Campaign.
Year 1: 1 school, 1 subject, 12 BETAs, 180 students
Year 2: 3 schools, 3 subjects, 26 BETAs, 540 students
