Ainsley's Angels of America is super excited to be spreading awareness through activism and to celebrate Roy!
Please enjoy this special story:
Roy and I met last year while working on his new power wheelchair. During a drive training session, it came up that was a runner and Roy had always wanted to participate in a marathon. We started running together right away and completed our first 5K in December of 2015. We are now training for our first half marathon in October and looking at a full marathon in February! Roy and I have both benefited immensely from running together. For Roy, it is not only a lifelong dream being accomplished, but has been able to help him regulate his emotions and has taught him how to better interact with peers while encouraging other runners. He says running allows him to feel free and relaxed. For me, running with Roy has been a reminder that it’s never too late to go for your dreams. He is an amazing 54 years old, living with cerebral palsy and is not letting that slow him down. He keeps me motivated and makes sure our team is staying on track. Before we started running, I had been struggling to find motivation to run again after my friend and college running partner passed away unexpectedly in 2014. Running for Roy has given me renewed strength and motivation. Roy prays for our team before every run and keeps me feeling strong. We have been using an old stroller type chair but it’s time to upgrade. We were able to borrow a fellow Angle’s Blade running chair for a 5K and loved it! The Blade will help us go faster and be more comfortable as we train and race longer distances. It will also be able to attach the chair to a bike for future adventures. The chair is custom built to fit our team and will allow Roy to keep running for many, many races to come!
