Our mission is to provide the low-income youth of our community with the opportunities they need to achieve school success.
We partner with families, schools, and school districts to close the gap and provide our students with expanded learning opportunities through after school, summer, and school day programming.
-2,500 students attend our programs 4 days a week.
-Students receive 740 hours of expanded learning time, a 60% increase over the school day alone. That's the equivalent of 100 extra school days.
-85% of our youth avoid summer learning loss by participating in our Summer Learning Academy.
-90% of our youth graduate from high school with a post-secondary education plan.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our staff are being creative and finding ways to continue supporting our students. We moved to a virtual programming model where staff are connecting with students by phone, video and text. Our priority is to maintain relationships between staff and students as well as between peers, to help the students avoid a sense of social isolation, to keep them feeling like they belong, and to realize that people care about them. If we can support their academic work, all the better.
On March 19th, 2020, BGCP mobilized to meet a growing community need. We have brought together staff, volunteers, and donors to provide 50,000+ to-go meals to the community since shelter in place began. As long as we have food, we will serve anyone who comes with pick up and go meals. In addition, we're partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank to distribute food boxes to families.
As the pandemic continues, our families' needs might change, and we will modify our programs in response. We are staying focused on what we can do right now.
