Benefit Fund for Kate Mihalec
Organized by: John Mihalec
After having several visits at Ohio State, Cleveland Clinic, New York, and University of Michigan, Kate has chosen to have the Cancer Team at University of Michigan help her through this process. Kate and the Team have considered many options but ultimately came to the conclusion that amputating her leg (above the knee) would be best to get rid of the cancer cells in her joint. She will be having this procedure done Thursday, January 28th. After that surgery they will then discuss whether or not she will need to go through any Chemotherapy and/or Radiation.
Her recovery time after the surgery will be 6-8 weeks for the swelling to go down on her leg. After the swelling goes down enough, she then will be able to get fitted for a prosthetic and eventually learn how to walk with it. The Physical Therapy doctor said since Kate is still young and active she could master walking with her new leg in roughly 6-8 months. She has a long road ahead of her but she is determined to get everything "back to normal."
Kate is a single mother of 3 young wonderful children (Shaun, Max, & Madden). Kate had knee surgery to remove a tumor in October and after doing a biopsy, she was diagnosed with Biphasic Synovial Sarcoma. Synovial sarcoma is a rare form of soft tissue cancer, that in her case, is located near the joint of her right knee. We would like to start this campaign to help Kate and her family through this difficult time. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and will go towards Kate’s lost wages and accrued medical expenses.
Besides this CrowdRise account, we have also opened two different bank accounts (Monroe Bank & Trust and Fifth Third Bank) that you can make a donation to. If you would like to make a donation at one of the two banks, her account is called “Benefit Fund for Kate Mihalec” (donations can be made at any branch).
We will also be holding a fundraiser dinner in the near future (after Kate's surgery since she said she wants to be present for it)for anyone that would like to come out and show their support. If you would like to donate a gift basket, gift card, or anything else that can be used in the silent auction, please contact me in advance and it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and gestures, keep the prayers coming! We are in need of support from family & friends now more than ever! Again, thank you!
