BENEFITING: THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF BEIT ISSIE SHAPIRO INC
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
On November 1, 2015, I ran my first marathon. It was one of the most difficult yet most gratifying things I have ever done. There were moments during the race when I thought I had hit my wall. But whenever I felt that I couldn't take another step, I thought of the children of Beit Issie Shapiro. These amazing kids were my inspiration and pushed me through the last miles on 5th Avenue and through Central Park.
Running may seem like a chore to many people. To the children of Beit Issie, running is a dream. So I run for them. I run so that they may have some of the happiness and exhilaration that I experience after finishing a race, be it a 5K with my son or the New York City Marathon.
This year, I was lucky enough to be able to run many races with my own son. To run with him is truly a dream come true. We laugh, we talk, we run. It is the best thing I have ever done. The children and the parents of Beit Issie Shapiro may not be able to run races together, but I know that seeing their children smile from the services Beit Issie provides may be the greatest gift these parents could ever receive.
On November 6, 2016, I am going to run the NYC Marathon again. Although I know my son and the children of Beit Issie may not be physically with me on the course, I will be running for them and for the smiles all parents know are worth everything in the world. Please join me in support of these amazing children.
