THE STORY:
At Edge of Seven, we believe that every person should be empowered to create the life they want to live and to be as awesome as they want to be.
Now, we invite you to join us in our quest this year to provide girls in rural Nepal access to higher education and opportunities for empowerment. You can BE AWESOME and HELP GIRLS by making a contribution to this campaign today, and helping us to reach our goal of raising $20,000 or more by June 30th to support our Community Development Program, through which we plan to build one higher secondary school and a dormitory for girls pursuing a Bachelor's degree in the Everest Region this year.
We level the playing field for girls and women in the developing world, who are often the most marginalized members of their society, by creating more access to education, health, and economic opportunities in remote and rural areas where few opportunities for advancement exist.
In Nepal, we work alongside communities and our local partners to improve and expand infrastructure that will provide a direct benefit to girls and women. Through our Community Development Program since 2010, we have completed:
- 5 school buildings,
- 2 large-scale water supplies, and the Solukhumbu Girls Hostel,
- A dormitory for 40 girls in the Everest Region who didn’t previously have access to a higher secondary education and are now studying grades 11 and 12 at one of the only higher secondary schools in the region.
In 2014, we will complete a secondary school in Nepal, a dormitory for girls pursuing a Bachelor's degree in the Everest Region, and a water supply at a school in Kenya. Through all of our projects, we have created a direct access to education and other resources for 2,500 individuals and 1,400 girls living in remote communities in the developing world.
Girls like Mingmar, who has seen many injustices inflicted on women in her remote village, which is located several hours walk from the district capital of Salleri where she is now in grade 11. She wants to become a journalist to bring more awareness to the challenges facing women in Nepal. She said, "Women in Nepal are living very miserable lives because they don’t have a voice, and they don’t have a choice in life. I want to fight this in the future.”
