Congratulations, Oregon Ducks supporters!
The inaugural SMART Literacy Challenge has come to an end! Over the past two months, passionate Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers fans rivaled to support SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) to foster lifelong reading skills in Oregon children. Much like on the football field, the SMART Literacy Challenge was a fiercely close race. In the end, on November 26, the Oregon Ducks were victorious in the 2016 SMART Literacy Challenge having raised a total of $5,516.
Rivalries aside, SMART has been amazed by the dedicated efforts by all. Collectively, Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers fans donated $9,131, enough to provide 3,650 giveaway books for SMART students. Thank you to Oregon State Athletics and University of Oregon Athletics for their commitment in spreading the importance of SMART reading programs. Of course, thank you to you, the zealous fans like no other, for your spirit and generosity in making our very first Literacy Challenge a success!
As a supporter of the winning team, one Duck fan has won the honor of selecting an elementary school for their team’s mascot and student athletes to visit. That’s not all—in true SMART sportsmanship, the Ducks gave one Beavers fan an opportunity to also select a school of their choice for a meet-and-greet with the team mascots.
