My dad was diagnosed with ALS November 2015. It has been a hard journey, but he is fighting it like a champ and keeping his positive attitude. I have been blown away by his continued joy in the midst of so much hardship. I'm so proud of both him and my mom, and the strength they both possess each day battling this terrible disease.
I'm participating in many events to help raise awareness of ALS, including: Triangle walk for ALS in Raleigh 4/23 and a Fiesta15k run in Georgia 4/30 in honor of my dad.
For the past year and a half I have watched my dad slowly decline. Once we finally got a diagnosis it definitely hit my family hard. Every day is a battle, but our mindset has to be one day at a time; otherwise it's too overwhelming. If we did not have God, I really don't know how we would be surviving each day. He provides the strength, joy, energy, laughter, peace and trust to make it through each day. And each morning, God renews that strength, joy, energy, etc to be able to survive another day. If anything, my family prays this trial can be a blessing to someone else and ultimately lead people to know the Lord.
