My name is Mark and my wife Jessica and I need your help. Our daughter Bella was born with a very rare form of muscular dystrophy called Merosin Deficient Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. Simply put this means that her muscles do not form properly and she has very low strength. She will likely never walk and need assistance for the rest of her life doing things that many of us take for granted day to day. Bella is a happy, vibrant and otherwise normal little kid who loves Curious George, bubbles and hot chocolates. As her parents Jess and I have to carry Bella everywhere because she cannot stand or walk. Even when we sit her somewhere we need to make sure she is surrounded by pillows to make sure that if she falls over she doesn't hurt herself.
There is no known cure for Bella's form of Muscular Dystrophy but we have hope that one can be found. This is why we are trying to raise money to go towards CureCMD, an organization set out to find a cure for all types of genetic Muscular Dystrophys.
On September 11 I will be doing the Half Ironman Triathlon in Santa Cruz, California and will be wearing Bella's body weight in the form of a weight vest through the race. During the swim I won't be wearing the weight vest (was not allowed to) so instead I will not be wearing a wetsuit and I will instead wear your messages on my body so please leave a message with your donation!
