Wednesday Community Nights!
January 16, 2018
BENEFITING: Boulder Creek Recreation & Park Foundation
Help us make this dream a reality! Boulder Creek Recreation is excited to announce our 2017-18 Campaign to renovate the former Bear Creek Country Club. We are looking at fundraising $600,000 over the next two years in order to meet our goals.
BCRPD is thrilled that the purchase was successful, we have been in search of possible locations to improve the community offerings for decades. Thanks to the assistance of Bruce McPherson, Jeff Gaffney, Stephen Slade, SC County Parks , SC Land Trust, BC Board of Directors and former Bear Creek Country Club owner Marybeth Patterson, we are on our way to re-opening a beautiful facility and recreation area.
The 1.2 million dollar purchase came with a swimming pool, tennis courts, clubhouse, workout room, hot tub, sauna, 4 acres of park land, bbq pits, creek access, basketball court and a beautiful 2000 year old redwood tree. BCRPD plans to repair and renovate the property in order to open it full time as a park, and aims to have the pool open to the public twice a week for the 2017 season. We are looking to do small events and party rentals by summer 2017.
Boulder Creek Recreation started seriously looking at the property in June 2016 and after making connections with the County and Parks Departments was awarded $450,000 to assist in the purchase. Boulder Creek Recreation was able to come in with $405,000 from savings, thanks to the sale of the Johnson Property in 1997, that was left as an endowment to the SLV Museum and BC Rec Department. The Santa Cruz County Land Trust was then asked and able to loan the District the remaining funds of $360 for a two year term giving the District time to get funding in place.
In order to meet the public building access requirements and repair and renovate the buildings and structures the District will need to raise funds to complete the project and be ready to open the space to the public. Our goal this summer June-September will be to meet enough of these improvements in order to open the pool twice a week and have the clubhouse area and pool available for private parties. It will take time to repair the entire property but our immediate project needs are listed in order of necessity:
